I recently read a poem in my English class and it gave me a whole new perspective on pretty much everything. I felt like I needed to share it's meaning.

Imagine you're walking on the beach. You might find some seashells. You will possibly bring them home with you and maybe put them on a shelf or a desk. Now, imagine yourself walking down the river and you spot a big gold nugget. Are you going to take that home and put it on the shelf or use it as a paperweight? NO. You're probably going to sell it.

Why wouldn't you sell the seashells? The answer is simply because society did not give seashells value. Early society gave gold value because of its uses. What if we gave up completely on gold, giving it absolute zero value, and turned our attention to an ordinary rock?

A good example of value is the $2 bill. Many people don't even know that it exists. (you can view the blog here)It's only valuable because that's what everyone thinks.

I hope this blog changed your perspective on regular objects. It certainly did to me. Think about this blog next time your see a rock. (I still don't remember the exact poem. If you know it please tell me the title so I can give credit to the author)
