Let me say a few things to start off. Don't post how much you love this game, and how graphics don't matter...and the normal argument defending this game. This my opinion.
Gameplay 6/10
It was fun in the early patches, but then it slowly got worse, with all the extra stuff they were adding. I could do a rant on all that, but i don't have the space nor time to write it. Not to mention how when you die, you lose all your crap and have to find it..
Graphics 3/10
While yes, i do agree that games aren't all about graphics, look at the original zelda. That game is still fun, and it had revolutionary graphics for its time. But for 2009, these graphics show no effort in it at all. I like the idea of mining things on a grid, but they could've at least made it more detailed.
BGM 6/10
The BGM fits the graphics. 8 bit, Single line, and all high pitched tones. Just like a retro game.... Sadly, this isn't a retro game. But then again, Pixels and an orchestra wouldn't exactly mix.
Online Mode 7/10
Online mode is decent, depending on what servers you go on. Sadly, its impossible to find one where people are mature, and don't act like preschoolers. And if someone says "Griefing originated in minecraft" one more time, i think i might snap. Its been around since ultimo online.
Items 5/10
Not only do you have to have the materials, but you also have to know how they go together...and also, you have to be very careful with placing certain objects. Otherwise, you can't destroy them without having to repeat a certain step in making it.
Overall 6/10
Honestly, the game lost how fun it was a long time ago. Right now, its slowly getting worse, and worse. I realized i was just forcing myself to play, and after a while, a lot more people will feel the same way.
The games time is coming. Its lost what attributes made it fun, and now, they're just digging themselves a deeper hole. Slowly, but eventually, that hole will collapse on them.
Well, heres what i have to counter on...I agreed with you on alot of things but i found a work around
Gameplay:You do know if you turn cheats on You could put "/gamerule keepinventory true" and you'll keep your inventory right?
Graphics:
You could always get a Texturepack if you dont like the pixels
BGM 6/10
you could add music yourself if you know how to but:Meh
Online Mode:Agreed.
Items:you could get mods. if thats your thing.Like a recipe book mod.
.
Overall:Happened with me. then i got mods i think i might of got addicted
other of all, i am rating this up, for not being another poem

I added my own javascript line to the minecraft code for keep inventory.
Okay... For the love of god, people.
8-bit means a range of 256 colors, as opposed to the commonly known 'if its pixelly it's 8-bit'.
Minecraft is NOT an 8-bit game, as it renders 3D shading and uses 16-bit (or 65,000 color range) sprites.
Just wanted to clear that up. ^,^

For its time, they were great.
For 2009, this shows no effort in it at all.

No effort, you say? I would love to see your coding in an 8 bit game nearly designed as well in its shading and hell, textures for a 3D 8-Bit being the best of its kind. Tell me a game that can too it on a PC 3-D 8 Bit Blocky game.

Here's the thing. Many people don't know the old games feel, as the people who play minecraft probably weren't even alive when majoras mask came out.
And if i were to code a game, you have a snowballs chance in hell of me wasting time on retro graphics, rather than todays graphics.
I'm studying C++. I can make a far more complex game than minecraft, if i had a team of people exactly as skilled as me and a few years dedicated.

I'd like to see you try... your just a freakin' dumbass.... Minecraft has sold over 100 MILLION copies on PC.
Honestly I'd give this a thumbs-up because of how well-written it is but apparently I can't. Other than that I don't agree with it and your info seems a bit stale.
Minecraft is not a game that you can really rate, I will have to be honest. Either you like it or you don't. Rating it is pointless, especially because the game is CONSTANTLY being updated. You give ratings on things that are pointless to rate. You gave a low rating on the graphics. Didn't you know that the creators of the game specifically said that the graphics are like that on purpose? They know the graphics aren't the best, that is the point. You rate down the gameplay, but the whole game is pretty much a free play game. The game is what you want it to be. You can play maps that people create and it changes the game, you can even mod the game to change the gameplay. Didn't you know that you can turn Keep Inventory to true so you don't lose your inventory upon death?
You are saying it lost the attributes that made it fun, but the game is what you want it to be. The updates are free, so I don't see how they are going to collapse in on themselves. The game is a 1 time purchase and the even said that once sales drop, the game will be released for free. They aren't doing anything wrong, their business plan is actually very good. I don't want to go into explanation of why it is good.
As I have said, this is a tough game to give a rating to because of how fluid it is. Now, what you should have done is taken another game that is similar and compared the two. That way you could compare all the attributes. Your ratings are hard to back up otherwise because it is hard for the rest of us to imagine what similar game is better than Minecraft. You could have compared this game to something like Roblox or even Legos. What would probably have been your best option would be to compare the current Minecraft with the Original Minecraft. Tell us the similarities, differences, what's better, what's worse, and why. You made an automatic assumption that we know how the original Minecraft was. Your intended audience is clearly people who have never played the game, but then you make references to the original Minecraft. The bottom line is that you dun goofed.
Though I found a lot of things wrong with this review, I will still give you a +1 because you did make a valid effort at rating the game.
I really do not understand why this is getting down voted so much, like he said, it is his opinion on the game, that is what reviews are, opinions, and while there are a few grammatical errors here and there, it is not horribly written and there is no txt tlk, emo love story.
I really think it is stupid that a gaming review on what is supposed to be a GAMING social website gets downvoted over the stupid emo love poems about underage heartbreak.
So you're saying things like sprinting and stackable food that was added wasn't good? Or all the bug fixes and everything.. Also why not get a HD texturepack that looks more real. Also there are tons of servers that have mature people. You just might not see it but this is a kids game. Lastly how is items a bad thing just go in creative or better yet go on the wiki and learn about it. This isn't to be some little old easy game that you beat in a day like COD or BF3. If you ever even played the game for a day in creative to see how stuff works you'll see how the items aren't a big deal. I would go on but I rather not

I play RPGs. I enjoy games that offer a challenge. Games that you can never really beat.

You lost all credibility at "kids game" really kids need to stop thinking EVERYTHING is for them and not for adults as well.
Also "wah stop hating what I like" is all I am hearing in this thread, it is really sad, and just proves how immature and asspained fanbois really are of a specific game/genre.
Accepted, Reason: This has been a long time needed for people who don't play it but are curious about it & don't want to pay for something they might not like. Good job.

On the Minecraft.net site, they actually have a free demo that you can try to see if you like the game before you buy it. People cannot go simply off of this review, they need to play it for themselves because either you like it or you don't. The game is what you want it to be.
