Slayin' is a pretty new game that's easy to pick up, but hard to master. The graphics are 2D and bits, but it's much fun. You kill enemies, collect coins to buy upgrades, and defeat the bosses. Get far enough, and you will face the mighty dragon.
You begin the game with only one game mode and character unlocked, the knight and normal mode. To acquire the other 2 characters, game skins, game modes, and hiscore/grave decoration, you have to earn Fame Points, or FP.
Gameplay is easy enough, but the game is difficult to get far in. You level up by killing enemies: the knight walks into enemies with his sword, the magician makes a whirlwind veil that makes her temporarily invincible, and a knave that wields two blades, one on each side.
The controls consist of a d-pad that goes left or right, and an action button. The action button allows the knight and knave to jump, and lets the magician cast her spell.
Killing enemies gets you closer to a level up. Every couple levels requires you to kill even more enemies for a level up. After reaching ten levels, a boss fight will occur. Each boss has a strategy needed to defeat them. Killing them results in a level up, and you advance. That means there are 10 bosses, with the dragon at level 100.
When you die, you have to start over. You gain FP based on the number of kills and objectives completed.
I think the game is perfectly challenging; I've only made it to level 60, but I'm sure I can make it all the way.
For $0.99, it's well worth the price because of the fun simplicity and replay value. I give it 4.5 out of 5, only because the music gets stale quick, and I find myself playing the game on mute.
