Imagine you fell in love with a nice little house. It's a new, modern one, and it comes with the latest appliances.
'S a pretty good house, and that's why you picked it.
Imagine you take a tour of that house before purchasing it, and kinda like it. It's something different than your old country home you and your parents used to live in, but you think you can get used to it pretty fast.
It’s how all the new houses are these days.
Imagine you arrive with a suitcase full of your belongings and try to open the door and realize it's locked.
Automatically.
Every time you close it.
So you always have to use a key, even when you are just out watering the flowers in front of your house.
You suppose you can get used to that, at least it's safe...
You go inside and immediately realize that someone else is already in that house, sitting on your couch with a huge group of friends. You're confused, so you ask what is going on. The person just shrugs and laughs and says they 'come with the house'.
Allright?
You want to have a private discussion with the person, so you ask the person's friends to leave.
They ignore you and mutter to each other in a weird foreign language that only a few of people are speaking nowadays. You never really wanted to learn that language, and that was okay. It was your choice. A lot of people didn't speak that language, so you weren't alone. The person from earlier makes a joke in English, and his friends laugh.
So, they do speak English. But not to you. Not unless you also speak their weird other language.
Finally you just force some out. Grab their arm, shove them out the door. Most of them you get rid of, but some, the ones seemingly very close to the 'other house owner', you are almost afraid to kick out. What would they do to your house? So, you leave those select few, taking up room in your living room.
Another thing- imagine that upon entry, there is a weird mini-apartment. This weird mini-apartment, however, is cluttered and messy and is missing a lot of important stuff. It has one door to get into the rest of the house and one door only.
Half of the stuff in the kitchen doesn't even work, it seems like it's just for show.
You ask the person in your house why they are here and why they can't leave. They just smile and shrug. You try to enter the second part of the house, but the door is jammed. You ask whats wrong with the door, and they say only they can open it.
They say good thing I never leave.
They open up the door for you and you step into the rest of the house, and they slam it behind you. You like this back part of the house, it's kind of more familiar and homey and less freakishly-modern. You realize that that whole 'wanting modern' thing wore off fast in that too-modern entrance area. You remind yourself to make it look nicer later.
You tour the rest of the house. It's wonderful and looks great and familiar. Except, it's kind of maze-like, and you find yourself getting lost in your own house.
You look through a window and see some of the other owner's friends lurking around outside.
They weren't really leaving, it looked like. Just... hiding.
Weird.
You manage to find your way back to the front area when you accidentally run smack into the wall. You try the door handle but it's locked. The other owner's voice calls out asking if you'd like to go out. You say yes. They open the door for you.
In the over-modern part of the house again, you reach into your bag and try to put a picture of your family up on the wall. The other owner suddenly blocks your view and says that you aren't allowed to do that. You can only pick from some of his decoration ideas.
You look at them. They aren't your type of thing, but there's nothing you can do about that.
You pick one you kind of like. It magically appears on the walls and it just makes the room look bulkier.
Oh well.
You have a microwave that you try to plug into the outlet in the kitchen. It's a nice one, you quite like it's size and chrome coloring.
As soon as you plug it in, it shrinks to half it's size and turns an ugly shade of the color you picked the walls to look like.
You ask how am I supposed to use this? It's so small! What happened?
The other owner says to use it you'll need to go to the other part of the house.
How does that even work you ask.
He just shrugs. This is my house, that's what it does.
You are very uncomfortable now and just want to leave, go back to your old familiar house. You want to sell the house, or whatever, and just get out. Maybe call the cops on this weirdo, or even burn the house down if you have to.
You try to open the front door and realize you can't.
I'm going to have to open that for you too the other owner states. Are you sure you want to leave?
You say yes.
Really sure he repeats.
You say just let me leave.
He opens the door and you step outside, only to find you can't leave.
There is literally a bubble around your house, connecting to a few other houses that you really don't even recognize. You can only go where the house lets you go. You can't go back to your old house anymore.
And you can't warn anyone about how awful these new houses are.
