Looking for an app to make music on the go, I stumbled across a newly released app called Let's Make Music (iOS, free). While it sounds like a piano app for preschoolers, it's a whole new experience.
You make or add to songs, having up to 9 notes to input into 8 beats. You don't need much, if any musical talent. When you've finished, you can't add more to that song until someone else does. The result is either a bunch of fragmented sections, a good melody, or both. You never know how it will turn out after you.
The UI is very clean, and the app itself runs smooth, along with quick loading times. There is a user system, and once you log in once you shouldn't need to log in again. There isn't a friend list or messaging, however.
Here are some screenshots.

There is a credit system, but it is balanced well. You get 200 "notes" to start out (don't worry, these aren't related to how many notes you put into a song), and adding onto a song only costs 5 notes, although creating one costs 25. If you run out, you have to buy notes at $0.99USD for 10.
Just kidding.
You can watch a video for 5 notes, enough to add to a song, or if you can't wait you can buy some with real money.
I've been very impressed with this app. It was obviously very well tested before release, having almost no bugs. Also, it's universal, so all you iPad users don't have to use the annoying zoom.
(Keep in mind, since it was released only days ago, almost every username is available, even ones like Bidoof or Spork. Thinking back, I wish I had chosen Spork.)
