Yes, behold, I am back from the dead. An email from Nintendo informing me that I could try Tomodachi Life early has brought me back. Ye, praise be to Shiggy.
Anyway, here's my take on the thing. Spoilers follow.
First things first: Name your Island (not sure if this will carry over to retail or not..) I name my Island Johtofalls (10 character limit), which it turns into "Johtofalls Island." Damn. Oh well.
Next, you get to choose what Mii becomes the lucky first resident of your Island. Catchy background music ensues. You can either start from scratch (or take a photo, then basically start from scratch) or import from Mii Maker. I import from Mii Maker. You can edit your chosen Mii after you pick, if you choose. I make my eyebrows slightly bushier.
Now, you get to fill in info, such as your (Mii's) birthday, name (first/last), whether they're a grown-up/kid (Damn Nintendo, why so ageist against teenagers?) and relation to you ("self" is default, as this is your Mii, after all.) You hear what your name will sound like and can tweak it with the spelling (I have to use è to get the right pronunciation, and even if that is the proper way to spell my name, I don't like it.)
Continuing with voices, you can then alter your Miis actual voice (tone and such.) I picked the old person voice, because it's slower and less high-pitched. You can also manually alter it, but I choose not to.
Finally, you get to fine-tune your personality: Movement (Slow/Quick), Speech (Polite/Direct), Expressiveness (Flat/Varied), Attitude (Serious/Relaxed), & Overall (Quirky/Normal.) It's all in a 1-8 range of boxes to check.
And with that, your Mii is done! It then assesses your choices and presents the results. With my answers, I got Independent & Artist. Not sure about Artist, but eh.
Now that that's done, your apartment building has just been finished! (coincidental!) Tap to enter. You live in Apartment 101. On the touch screen, you see all of the units available, represented as windows. Tap on a window to see what the residents are up to (Voyeurism is cool!) and then tap enter, if you'd like. You'll ring your Mii's doorbell, the Mii will comment on your similarity to him/her, and then you can view various bits of info on the top screen. Tap his thought bubble to get him to ramble. He's hungry right now, so we're going to the store, apparently.
Btw, you navigate your Island via the touch screen. There seem to be 23 icons on the bottom, and that's how we'll get to the kwik-e-mart. Pick something that he'll like. Interestingly, the options right now (pancakes, veggie burger, steak, soda, salad) seem more diner-ish than 7-Eleven-ish. You have $50 on hand, and most things are <$6, barring the steak ($15.90.) I get him a salad and pancakes. Btw, the clerk is, quite literally, a blockhead.
Now back to the apartment to feed the little bugger. I mean you.
Apparently, the window icons show you at-a-glance info, like if the Mii has a problem. (ie: He's hungry.) Tap his bubble, he'll say he's hungry, and then a gift icon appears! Tap it to give something to a Mii, in the future and now. I tap iit and give him the salad. It appears in the corner of the screen, just floating around like most salads do. Drag-and-drop it to your Mii like the brain-dead creature he is so he doesn't die of starvation. He then eats the bowl. Literally.
Solving a Miis' problem raises its happiness, apparently. I also got $20-something in cash. Apparently, something neat happens if you raises it enough. Each Mii is also a special snowflake and has different interests/tastes, so see what each on likes.
My Mii has another problem, apparently. He's lonely, since he's the only guy here
on Guantanamo
. Now you get to make a Mii look-alike of someone else!
This time, I take Hobo Joe and put him on the island. He sure is handsome. I'll insert a pic into the message in a bit. He's Outgoing and a Trendsetter. :motherofgod:
Your Mii conveniently found out that someone is moving into the moving! You get more cash now (apparently.) And you solved his Loner-itis, so happiness points go up! Apparently, Happiness = Money-Get. Remember that, kiddies. Your Mii wants to introduce himself. Interactions like this appear on the top screen, btw.
RANDOM TIPS: You can apparently take screenshots via X (for the top screen) and Y (for touch screen) buttons. Good to know, it would have saved a lot of explaining. My fault for not checking the manual. You can also move your system around to view your Mii's apartment(s). Saving is done via the Start button on the map screen. No auto-saving, so be sure to save (just like Animal Crossing.)
Back to the meeting. Apparently, Mii personalities are split into 4 big groups, which are also split into 4 each, making 16 personalities in all. You can view a comparison chart to see how two personalities will get along. Handy-dandy.
Apparently, increasing your population leads to more areas opening up! (think MySims for DS, in a way. Miis can develop relationships, become couples, and eventually marry, blahblahblah moving on.
"One day... A married couple might even have a baby!"
That's right, the Town Hall is open! Apparently, there's lots of cool crap to do there!
I've just been informed that I can make just 1 more islander, and solve 5 more problems in this copy of Tomodachi Life: Move-In Version. Ah well. I also get one cool interior and three different outfits I can give to each of my islanders. Ooh.
Interestingly, I have not been hounded to take a break once. Weird.
Apparently, the Town Hall is where I can create more Miis to put onto my Island. Sweet. You can also view your Inventory (Collecton), current list of Miis (categorized how you see fit), and add new Miis. The other 3 options (Send/Recieve, Child Info, & QR Code) are not available, apparently. Darn. Guess I'll add my third Mii and be done for now.
It is now time to add a female. Oooh, aahhh. I'll add Nikki from Swapnote!
/feels
She is also Outgoing/Trendsetter. Damnit...
Apparently, she wants new clothes. TOO THE KWIK-E-MART!!!
My options are either a Striped Tunic, or a Grass Skirt (the complimentary item for us elite gamers.) Hmm...
I give her the Grass Skirt. She likes it, and gives me cold medicine. She doesn't know that I kickec cough syrup years ago, but oh well. It's now in my inventory.
You can also now change any Mii's clothing with the change-clothes icon, right below the gift icon. Thanks HUD!
Let's check in on Remi...
Oh noes! He has a cold! If only I had some medicine... Thankfully I do.
He eats the entire box of medicine. He also has just leveled up! I wonder if he got some good stat gains...
Damn,, just happiness. It's reached Max, though. Which is why he leveled up. I can now give him either a song, gift, interior, phrase, or pocket money as a present for leveling up. The Mii will use the gift, but it can only have 8 gifts at a time. It'll have to give one back eventually if you want to give it more.
I'm gonna give Remi a catch-phrase! :L We'll have him say... "Clobbah dat dere Kirbeh!"
Oh, 16-character limit? Screw you too, Nintendo. Fine, we'll just have him say "Puyo!"
I got some hair-color spray in return. Yay. Oh, and I can now use the phrase icon, to change a mii's phrase at any time. Woohoo.
Now to feed Nikki. I give her pancakes. She doesn't really like them, but she's pretty full now. I get a Bath Set in return.
Hobo Joe's next. He wants a new look for his apartment (which he should be grateful he even has, the filthy hobo.) Gift time. I give him the Secret Base, which looks like his native outdoors. He loves it, apparently. I'm offered a tour of it. I oblige. Now you can either use the gyro or the circle pad to look around. That kindness netted me a hefty $40. I can also now use the Interiors Icon, which does what you can imagine.
Ooh, he's asking me if I want to play a game! I say yes. FOOT TIEM. Rules: Tap the screen.
... Yes, just that. I won. Now I get to pick a prize! I choose box #2 and get some Chattery Teeth. Woo.
It's also his birthday, so I give him a flannel shirt. He likes it.
Pics from last post- Nikki in grass skirt
Well, I was lazy and just uploaded them to Facebook (since I posted this on a thread in GameFAQs originally, then decided to post it here.) They're 3DS sized though, but I haven't tested them on my 3DS. Sorry 'bout that.
