Its been a sad day for die hard fans of the Marvel vs Capcom series. Since Disney bought the rights to Marvel, gamers like myself dread the thought that this would be the end of Marvel gaming. No more Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, Rise of Imperfects, Avengers, hit Marvel games we grew to love and know, are slowly becoming relics. Never to see a direct sequel, nor a reboot or expansion. Instead, now we look forward to games such as Disney Infinity, Marvel: Contest of Champions, and what ever else Disney decides to milk from Marvel in it's gaming demographic. Marvel Gaming may never, ever be the same... Or will it?
Well there's been a conspiracy going on in the gaming universe of Marvel, particularly Marvel: CoC, an IOS game developed by Kabam. So apparently, It's believed that Kabam has either stolen or parodied things from the Capcom universe that has fans both questioning and flaming over the internet. It appears that content within the games animations, maps, and other small details have been copied directly from some of Capcoms works, even though Capcom had no involvement in it's development. Whether this is just misunderstood homage to ties both Marvel and Capcom had back in the day or a slap to the face for fans varies.
One of the big noticeable factors that started the conspiracy is a special move performed by super hero Miles Morales. In his animation, he performs a flurry of kicks while balancing on one leg, never shifting to the other one. The camera changes to the opponent, who you see has their head kicked around senselessly while staying completely in place. After a brief moment, Miles then shifts his stance before going into a crouch, and then launches the opponent into the air with a uppercut-like kick. The animation can be seen here.
Now for those who are reading this that have been up to date with Capcom's SFV coming around later this year, you might realize that this sounds almost deliberately like Chun-li's Signature move in the game. Here's the sad truth:
IT IS!!!
You can even compare the two. It hardly even subtle. The Camera Angles, the effects, even the fall of the opponent is an exact spitting image with maybe a few frames or angles altered.
What may have went under the rug as a harmless reference to the fans gets dug even deeper when even more characters are shown using moves that are signatures known from the Street Fighter series. And it doesn't stop there, some of the levels locals, details, scenery and more bare a striking resemblance to levels from street fighter.
It may not trigger you like most fans have been, but the fact that whether it's Disney, an already financially growing corpation, and Kabam overlooking this as harmless or not is just disheartening for Marvel gaming fans and outright disrespectful to Capcom, especially because this little mobile fighting game is thriving right now because of it. Whereas some Major companies like Capcom have to put so much effort into their content to make it stand out as memorable to their fans and take huge hits from even one or two failures, Disney, a company that may be around for centuries, can make a mistake and still thrive from it. Like, how many games has Disney made that maybe sold a few thousand copies or was just badly received and nearly left them bankrupt? Not as much as Capcom in the past recent years. In fact, probably not even once.
What do you think? Does this still seem like a misunderstood attempt to show respect to Capcom and it's fans? Or is this just shameless plagiarism for a quick cash grab and a punch in the gut to Capcom? Triggered or not, leave a comment on your opinion.
Also, if anyone can teach me how to properly copyright this if need be, let me know. Thank you!
