@waffle Erm, no. There are definite sequels in the series, as well as various references in each game to past and/or future games in the series.
@drwho we already knew there was a timeline. There are references in games of other games, as well as sequels, not to mention Miyamoto and Aonuma confirmations. :P
This here is about the best timeline for the series that I know off, and is solid:
1-Skyward Sword. It has been stated to predate Ocarina of Time.
2-Ocarina of Time:
Here's where things get tricky. Ocarina of time splits the timeline into two different paths, one where Link was a child (Child timeline) and the future Link left when he was an adult (Adult timeline.) This was confirmed twice by the series director Eiji Aonuma.
Child Timeline In this timeline, Link went back as a child and warned Zelda of Ganondorf's intentions. He s then trapped in the Twilight Realm by the seven Sages.
Majora's Mask-directly follows
Ocarina of Time.
Centuries later in this timeline, the events of Twilight Princess occur.
Adult Timeline This is the timeline that takes place in the future that Adult Link left behind. In it Ganondorf reawakens and reeks havoc on Hyrule. The gods flood Hyrule since there is no longer a hero to stop Ganondorf. The events of Wind Waker take place hundreds of years after the end of the Adult Timeline of Ocarina, which is then followed in succession by Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.
Other titles contain references and connections, such as A Link to the Past being a prequel to Link's Awakening, but connecting all of them together with the rest of the timeline would be mostly guesswork.
