spreader gun (almost all old school shooters) this guns bullets spreads, unlike all other bullets in those games, and allows you take out many enemys at once.

I'm gonna revise my list a little.
1. Berserker, as mentioned above.
2. Invincibily in Jet Force Gemini. Trust me, if it's there, pick it up, because horrible flying lser assholes are probably gonna swarm the stage soon after.
3. Magic Hands in SA2. You trap enemies in a ball of wibbly wobbly...timey wimey...stuff.

in the way off classics, i'd say rapid fire from the original contra. it's so releiving not to have to continiously mash the fire button to survive.
otherwise, it would be the mushroom in mario kart during a baloon battle. it makes the match that much more satisfying for me to finish with three colors of baloons floating above me.
