Make some snacks, I'm telling a story about my dirty deeds first.
My latest permaban (Heh, it has happened a lot of times) has involved friend requests. When someone requested to be your friend, a notification would be sent to your message inbox indicating that "so-and-so has added you as a friend." This notification was quite useful so that it might remind you to add that user, if the user is someone you like.
Now, one particular user, named...Arceus234090...told everyone to send friend requests to him so he can achieve a goal of over 9,000 messages in his inbox. I thought of a brilliant idea: I could download an autotyper (aka autoSPAMMER) to keep sending "/addfriend so-and-so" at a rate of one message per second. I was giddy with such an idea. Now, for some crazy reason, instead of adding Arceus as a friend over 9,000 times, I chose a random victim: Izumazi. (Her new username is Katniss.) I left my computer on all night and went to bed.
I wake up to check the carnage I have done. I saw countless "Your account is not active." messages. I stopped the autospammer, and over a period of 9 days, paniced and tried to figure out who would do such a crime. I eventually found out that Katniss emailed Hull about her 27,000 friend requests and that they should stop, so Hull pressed the red button. I got unbanned eventually, and Hull removed the friend request notification feature. The End.
[I could fill a book with all the things changed to this site because of what I did]
Now, here's the problem. Chances are, if you are in a busy chatroom, exclaiming "so-and-so i want to be ur friend plz plz :3", the message might be overlooked. Even then, if it is read, so-and-so might say "no i dont want 2 be ur friend u r loser lololol" and the requester might go on some rampage. Yes, it has happened once.
Instead, when someone was to do "/addfriend so-and-so" a notification in so-and-so's chatroom window would appear. It would appear much like what would happen if you used "/profile":
aWeSoMe UsErNaMe wants to be your friend.
Accept Decline
so-and-so likes aWeSoMe UsErNaMe, so he (or she, I don't know) accepts the friend request. In aWeSoMe UsErNaMe's chatroom window, a message says "so-and-so is now your friend."
OR...
so-and-so hates aWeSoMe UsErNaMe, and would throw his DSi at him for the sole purpose of laughter and amusement. so-and-so clicks "Decline". aWeSoMe UsErNaMe's chatroom window states that "so-and-so politely declined your request."
Now aWeSoMe UsErNaMe hates so-and-so for declining his friend request. Oh no, he could spam the message over and over again! How devious! Not to worry, the system will only let you send a friend request once every minute. If aWeSoMe UsErNaMe rages and keeps trying to send messages repeatly, after 3 times the user would be kicked from the chatroom.
So...give me ideas and improvements to contribute to this revolutionary idea.
wow! permabans? frequent enough to bulleten about? and i agree with bringing the feature back.. ur choice was obviously irrational, but had funny motives.. i don't care much for the idea of people seeing there friends online on the home page if they didn't agree to friendship lol, maybe aquaintances?
