Hull, if you read this, can u plz do somthing about it?
In a BB post, part of it was a name. aperently the unmentioned name had a vulgur word in it.
My point is that some people might learn new words with the cencorer. (little kid on this site impression) "Why did this part get cencored?" he looks it up and finds an EXTREMLY derogetory meaning. Maybe you could make it so whenever somthing gets bleep'd, you could bleep the entire thing untill the next space.
Definitly not. Many users already go overboard with their speech, so allowing them the use of the blocked words wouldn't help anyone in the slghtest. o.o
It's my job to help the next generation, and set a good example for them. And for that I'll gladly lay down my life.
Your argument seems contradictory, but I know what you mean. You want a more powerful censor that blocks entire strings either containing or "equaling" the inappropriate word.
This gets into the idea of the perfect censor system. Which, of course, is impossible due to unintentional blocks (as stated) and endless variations of bypassing. The flip-side idea to ignore words that are bookended by characters requires too much work to create and access--and is too risky anyway.
How many and at what age kids know these words is irrelevant. SDK is geared toward a younger audience; a decent balance of censoring is needed--not too little and not too much. A better idea would be to avoid writing these words in all cases, even unintentionally.
So no, I don't think the site's censor system should be modified as you proposed.
On another note, the censor system does block out entire words that are inappropriate, but is flawed as the words are often still visible through other means. Though I think the current system is satisfactory, I do feel that particular aspect of it could and should be amended.
@tehjew1: All they have to do is look at which letters were changed into stars.. derp.
Eh I think the system is fine, but I do that the alternate "lmbo" should not be censored because you can say "the a word" anyway so it doesn't really make much sense :p
