-- more effective than wind & solar power-- if we get cheap energy- then prices WILL go down because of compition- but having buisness pay more 4 oil & gas 4 transporting goods- then prices go up. then obama says the stimulus worked- well look @ our unemployment #'s. from 2008 2 know- nothing happened! by printimg more money- we get inflation- prices go up up up- but if we print even MORE money- we hit hyperinflation. that is scary- prices could soar up like a rocket[see what happened 2 germany in ww1 for hyperinflation] back 2 obama. he made our deficit 2 1.4 trillion...1.4 TRILLION dollars- thats just rediculous--. instead of improving our debt- hes making it worse- - but is it obama. yes- hes the one who is following the LIBERAL agenda- which leans all on one individual character who is pulling the strings. yes. its george soros. obama says america is not what it was & we should humble ourselves- yet thats not the american way- we were attacked by the japenese in wwii by pearl harbor- did fdr say we are america- we are not what it was- no- we took back the pacific- fought 4 democracy- the american way- did george w. bush say on 911 that america is not what it was- no- we took out al queda & kicked sum uk wat. unfortunatly as i close this rant- obama is not a leader but a follower- u canargue that he lead 4 the capture of osama- but he only followed the plan george bush had put down when bush was in office. all hes doing if following harry reid palosi-soros- all on the socialist agenda.like i said- who is really leading the country- is it obama- or those who ae whispering in his ear what 2 do.

TehPhoenix - Please look up the REAL stats before you start pulling numbers from thin-air. A quick search reveals these 2008 numbers. If I had more time, I'd look up the 2010 numbers:

Top 1%: 38% paid
Top 5%: 59% paid
Top 10%: 70% paid
Bottom 50%: 2.7% paid

I've never been an 'Obamanite', but I did support him initially because I wondered if he'd be able to do something about our economic and debt situation. I honestly don't think anything can be feasibly done about the latter now. It can only compound itself over time; China is crackling its knuckles at us, reminding us we owe it over $1 trillion alone....

It's my job to help the next generation, and set a good example for them. And for that I'll gladly lay down my life.

Those numbers are the actual amounts paid in dollars, divided by class. It does not reflect tax rates. The US has a progressive tax system, which plays into the vote-buying class warfare. The bottom 45% (+/- a few percent per year) pay absolutely nothing. Many actually get money back from the government as subsidies. The people who pay the highest rates, realistically, are the lower of the upper-class since they are in the highest tax bracket, yet don't have the means of the uber-wealthy to use tax loopholes to hide funds in offshore accounts. These uber-wealthy may pay at the rate of the middle-class, so it's still millions of dollars per year.

What we really need is a flat consumption tax to replace a progressive tax tabled income tax. I'm a strong proponent of the Fair Tax, which is such a tax. There are no loopholes, so people can't cheat the system (which does occur at all income levels). People are not taxed on what they earn, just what they spend. I should write a blog about the topic.

Flat taxes impact everyone the same. The "flat" refers to a percentage, not a dollar amount.
