I agree that the group shouts do have the potential to clutter up the alerts box. But having the ability to toggle them on or off might be a bit much; we don't want too many further options in settings.
As group shout alerts probably won't be a constant issue for the average user, I'm thinking that a better solution would just be the option to delete alerts--with an 'x' to the right of the alert. Yes, it'd take time to get rid of them, but it's simpler and less invasive.
However, it can be a huge problem for users who are in a lot of groups. Would it still be too much work for a user like that to delete alerts? A lot of it also depends on how popular groups become from the updates.
