Erm, Skittles just explained, but, alright. Basically, it's when a member of a Group you're in posts in that Group. Think of it like the Profile Comment Alerts.

Hm, what do you mean? You're already in a group if you're receiving group shouts. To join a group, the creator of the group must send you an invitation. Ask them on the group page shoutbox.

Whenever someone in a group that you're a part of makes a post, you get an alert called a Group Shout.
