@Rlad116 Yeah, and most would say the newer ones transitioned the formula well, except for Other M on Wii and Federation Force on 3DS to an extent (I haven't played them so I can't say much about them)
The DS one is primarily a multiplayer game so there isn't much to its singleplayer

I bought the original metroid for 3ds and enjoyed what I played on it do I suppose I should look into the entire franchise then huh? Also what changed between the side scroller and the newer ones? I know "metroidvania" is now a genre in games, did Metroid turn away from that genre?

@Rlad116 Oh, I see. Uhh sure, but maybe skip Metroid on NES and Return of Samus on GB because they have remakes for GBA and 3DS, and they're very uh, aged (but maybe you have a higher tolerance for those types than I do)

So I explicitly want to buy games on wii u because I'll get to own them, unlike NSO. Also GBA games are on there. Should I get any of the other old Metroids? I'm just trying to build up a collection of /not wii/ games so that when the Wii u eshop gets shut down I can play them. Even though I do own most of the nintendo consoles I don't feel like hunting down old specific games just yet. Especially when I know I'm going to have to pay a premium.

@Rlad116 I haven't played a lot of retro games but of those that aren't already on NSO, I'd say Super Mario Land on GB and maybe Super Smash Bros. on N64
I'd suggest some DS games but the ones I like are mostly because of their multiplayer which I don't think you can do on Wii U
Idk if Wii U has GBA but if it does, Metroid Zero Mission
