I don't know about fonts no, you just have to use trial and error, but I'm sure if you use major familiar ones they'd be fine, anything that's kinda niche probably won't work

1st of all your profile lags my phone, how'd you do that?
2nd to fix your ds, you may have to plug in or fix the ribbon cable, worst case scenario you have to get a new screen, this is because the top screen is most likely shutting down the ds
