To an extent, it is. Not choose everything he does, but to do what you can to help him.
Kids don't know much, and he isn't an adult yet. His father just did what he thought would help him more and prepare him for life better in the end.

For me, it isn't about that. It's about teaching him independence. A job at his father's restaurant won't do much to get him a job anywhere else and his father probably doean't want his son to work in his restaurant his whole life. He wants better for him. o.o

Education is important.
If they don't think they need college then they must think they can do just fine without it. If they can do just fine without college then they must think they're able to get a job to support themself.
If they can do that then they've gained independence which is good. If they can't then they'll learn they shouldgo back to schoo. :3
