As I'm sure you're all aware of the inevitable release of the Nintendo 3DS in the USA on March 27 this year, I do not regret to inform you of what disadvantages are in this handheld concealed with "awesome features." While the 3DS is a revolutinary step forwad for Nintendo in terms of technology and gameplay, it has some obvious flaws that could prove to be controversial some time after its release. These flaws are embedded within the 3DS's crucial features, both physically and technically. Here is why the 3DS may suck in the long run:
1.) Short Battery Life: Compared to the average battery lifespan of other DS units, from the DSi with 6-9 hours, and the DS Lite from 9 - 14 hours, the 3DS's 3 - 5 hour battery is pathetic. This is a crucial step backward from what Nintendo has done in the past, and may leave gamers pissed off in the longrun. Then again, this may be beneficial to ease muscle stress and reuce optical irritation.
2.) Steep Price: The 3DS is the most expensive Nintendo handheld to date: $249.99! Back in 2005, the Sony PSP cost this much, and so does the PSPgo right now. Even the Wii was originally this price back in 2006. For a gaming handheld, this is just too steep, and I don't predict a price drop happening any time soon. Plus, a DS Lite costs $129, a DSi $149, and a DSiXL $169, which are REASONABLE prices.
3.) Pricey Games: 3DS games will average from $40 - $50! Now think for a sec: that's nearly the same price as new Wii or PSP games, right? Also, it is nearly the same price as some marked-down 360 and PS3 games, too. These are supposed to be handheld games. They shouldn't cost this much regardless of hi-tech included.
4.) Ugly Design: Now, you think that with portable multimedia devices nowadays that Nintendo would think to be more conservative, but NO. The 3DS looks similar to the original chunky DS from 2004. A smaller touch screen and a larger upper screen. Glossy surface = inevitable fingerprint carnage. -_-'
