- Iwata Asks interviews reveals nintendo rejected 12 Nintendo 3DS design concepts what is a lot since each design was very hard worked and detailed but this last one was just too impressive to miss. -

- Incredibly the Nintendo 3DS is a basically device for everything, its 3 Layered design is genial. It was said the 3 layers were designed to provide mobility, security, durability and style. -

"Ehara: Yes. By boldly using that shape for the top layer, without having to add in a niche for your finger, you could easily open the lid at any point along its edge. For the second layer, it was decided to put a sound volume slider and LED lights on the side, so in order to avoid accidentally hitting buttons when operating the system or carrying it around, we decided to concentrate them on that single layer and make the whole layer a bit of an indentation, which would make the top layer even easier to open.

For the top layer, we want players to open their Nintendo 3DS system very often, so in order to make it easy to open, we wanted to use a distinct reverse taper."

"Then for the bottom layer, I wondered if we could adopt something like the sign system at airports. I thought putting icons or lettering on the third level for the buttons and LED lights on the second level would be a good way to make everything clear to users."

- An emphasis was placed on making the console easier to open while remaining strong enough not to crack, and as Ehara said the layers also provide users fingers a place to grip, so your 3DS won't fly away when you are frenetically playing Street Fighter IV 3D. -

"Hironori Akai: Where the top layer looks sort of transparent, we’re using something new, an anti-fingerprint UV coating.

Ehara: It’s the first time we’ve treated a system so fingerprints won’t stand out, while at the same time preserving surface strength and a lustrous texture.

Iwata: If you touch it, you’ll still leave a fingerprint, but the coating makes it less prone to fingerprints compared to conventional products and it’s easier to remove them.

Akai: Right. If you wipe it with a cloth, they come right off."

- The Nintendo 3DS hardware was also strategically place in order to avoid damages if it falls or is hit by something, the device's shell and All the outside design materials were also chosen to provide the strongest shell possible, glass-fiber resin was used for the chassis also in order to avoid damage and scratches. -

"The metal buttons and circle pad have also been made stress-resistant. The battery cover is now the entire back piece rather than a smaller door."

- Metal Buttons, amazing isn't it? yes, for those wondering, the battery will be replaceable the entire back piece is to enhance the protection, and it is also stronger as the shell and overall design aspects. -

- For now the 3DS is available in 2 colors, cosmo black and aqua blue, cosmo black is of course all black but the aqua blue one has the black top screen as everyone noticed, this is to make the 3D effect easier to see and stronger, upcoming colors for this device will probably have the black top screen as a standard 3D effect enhancer. -

- I guess this time it is more than fully packed at the start, and why not remember it is easier to carry than a DSi? since it is smaller than the DS lite. -
