You know, it's a sad day when a girl is embarrassed to be a part of her high school class- in this case, the Class of 2014.
Yesterday, my school had a pep rally, and at every pep rally we have this contest called "Yo, Baby!" where each class does a cheer with the cheerleaders and majorettes to see who is the loudest, or has the most spirit. Yesterday was no different except for one part: The sophomores, my class, didn't even try.
Here's how it went:
Cheerleaders/Majorettes: Yo, baby! Yo, baby! Yo!
Sophomores: (All sophomores, with the exception of the few quiet/shy students) Yo, baby! Yo, baby! Yo!
Cheerleaders/Majorettes: Go, sophomores! Go, sophomores! Go!
Sophomores: (Only about half of the sophomores, with about 5-6 of the sophomore JV football players who got to join us for it (the sophomore varsity football players cheered with the seniors... >-<) Go, sophomores! Go, sophomores! Go!
Cheerleader, Majorettes, and Sophomores: (Only 1-3 JV players and 2-4 sophomores along with cheerleaders and majorettes) Go! Go! Go! Go, go! Go sophomores! Go! Go! Go! Go, go! Go, sophomores! Go!
Sophomores: (NOW the rest of the sophomores decide to do something!) *random screaming*
During this time, the juniors and seniors took their turns.
The 30 seconds between the seniors' turn and the usual announcement that they won:
Freshman, Juniors, Seniors, and a few Sophomores, excluding band members, cheerleaders, majorettes, and varsity football players: *mix of repetitive chants of "Freshmen! Freshmen!" "Juniors! Juniors!" "Seniors! Seniors!" and only 2 sophomores, me and Kenyatta Hollins, who stood right beside me and was the only other sophomore I heard who also did "Yo, Baby!" with me, were chanting for our class- "Sophomores! Sophomores!"*
Miss Hobbs, the dance/aerobics teacher: And the winner is...
*chants continue*
Miss Hobbs: The Seniors!
*Seniors scream and cheer in triumph as the cheerleaders throw mini foam footballs into their section*
*Chants quickly start up again with only me and Kenyatta cheering for the sophomores*
I believe it's possible that there may have been 3-6 other sophomores participating in both parts, but if there were, it still wasn't many and I couldn't here them over the 20 to 30 different conversations going on in the sophomore section.
Either way, this is a complete embarrassment. Even the "fish" (nickname for freshmen in case other schools don't use that term), who we could have easily beaten, were louder than us. I feel that we, the Sophomores of Pittsburg High School, have lost all of the respect that we earned through our many victories at pep rallies as freshmen.
We were a proud class last year. We represented ourselves the way we wanted to be known as freshmen. This year, the other sophomores have made it obvious that they no longer want to be thought of as proud and strong, rather as lazy and quiet.
To the class of 2014 around the country who may be reading this, be sure to show your spirit at pep rallies. Be the pride of your school district. Let your voices be heard! Don't be a lazy bum like most of my class.
I plan to get all of the sophomores here in Pittsburg together soon and give them a little pep talk of my own because that was just demeaning and disrespectful considering that this pep rally was special due to the fact that the Pittsburg Pirates had just gone up against and I think beat the 2nd best high school football team in the state of Texas. I would appreciate it if you would give me some suggestions of what to say to the other sophomores.
"All for one and one for all!" -Motto of the Class of 2014 of Pittsburg, Texas
we do cheerleaders:"wats that 8th grade battle cry? 8th graders: "V-I-C-C-T-O-R-Y!" which i dont do. but i do spend the whole 1st track meet screaming at the top of my lungs. and i spent all of the 7th grade pep rallys going ga ga over a shy 8th grade football player. now i spend my time trying not to puke when i notice how many hideous super unpopulars are drooling over me. if only i wasnt shy i would get the mid popular guys... fail
try being in a school where the chearleaders are horible and everyone hates them, the football team is lucky if they beat the worst football team in the state, and is so poor they had to build a visions bank inside of it. i'm not the only one that thinks this, most of chearleaders have boyfriends from our rival district. although, because i can say this, GO CLASS OF 2014.
Pep rallies suck... all they're good for is having a long nap [with earplugs]. Maybe even throwing things at the cheerleaders, if you hide from teachers.
