Has anyone heard of the Nintendo Game Seminar? It is an annual program held by Nintendo of Japan at the University of Japan since 2006. The seminar has Japanese college students learn about and experience hands-on game development over the course of eight months. At the end of this period, several teams are each expected to complete creation of a Nintendo game as their final product. They tend to focus on creative gameplay. A package of these games are then released the following year.
Possibly the most notable release was for DS a few years ago. This year, four Wii U games come to the Japanese eShop. This summer's upcoming seminar plans to focus on 2D use of the Unity engine for Wii U.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you think HullBreach Studios and other indie developers can and should take inspiration from it? Can cues be taken for HBU specifically?
