[I apologize in advance, as the first Thread I made regarding this is invisible to me, and this might come across as a Dupe. My Mac died out while typing.]
"A measure to ensure faith-based groups could turn away committed same-sex couples who want to adopt children or provide foster homes failed in the Illinois Senate on Wednesday."
Personally, I'm outraged that this even got that far. Why would they want to turn a couple away, if it means a [potentially] better life for the kid?! It's just prejudice, in the name of the Bearded Hippie, who, last I checked, was "Loving and accepting of everyone". How ironic, religion.
What are YOUR thought on this?
Whoa bro, better slow down bro, don't wanna be a bro, bro.
This is based both on how one defines "marriage" and how one defines "family".
I believe marriage is an official union between a man and a woman; anything other than that is a hindrance to procreation.
And I believe a family consisting of two opposite-sex parents should impart that onto a child for the sake of the above reason.
@The Ram Referencing the Christian deity as a "bearded hippie" may not only be offensive, but also is culturally inaccurate. Last I checked, the Christian God does love all, but does not accept all.
Odd? What is odd to one person is normal for another.
It has been proven that same-sex parents raise kids equally as opposite sex parents do.
"A Cambridge University developmental psychologist testified at a federal trial in San Francisco today that broad research has documented that children of same-sex parents are just as likely as those of heterosexual parents to be well-adjusted.
"Studies have found children do not require both a male and female parent," testified Michael Lamb, who heads Cambridge's Department of Social and Developmental Psychology.
Lamb was called by lawyers for two same-sex couples who are challenging Proposition 8 as a violation of federal constitutional guarantees of equal protection and due process. Proposition 8, approved by 52.3% of voters in 2008, amended the California constitution to ban same-sex marriage.
He said childhood adjustment is determined by the relationships parents have with children and their relationships to each other.
Lamb also said that studies show "no significant increase" in the proportion of children who become gay and lesbian when they are raised by same-sex couples rather than heterosexuals.
Children of same-sex couples are more vulnerable than their counterparts to be teased about their parents, but not more likely to be teased overall, he said. Lamb also said that children of gays and lesbians have fewer sexual stereotypes than children of heterosexuals.
Under questioning by a lawyer for the Proposition 8 campaign, Lamb admitted he was a member of the ACLU, the National Organization of Women, the NAACP, Amnesty International and the Nature Conservancy.
"And you have even given money to PBS, isn't that correct?" asked David H. Thompson, who is defending Proposition 8. Thompson suggested Lamb was "a committed liberal."
Thompson also elicited testimony from Lamb that "children clearly benefit when they have two parents, and both of them are actively involved."
Thompson said that 2000 census data showed that 33% of lesbian households and 22% of gay men household were raising children and that most studies have dealt with lesbian mothers rather than gay fathers.

How? How can be two female parents, or two male parents be less effective in raising a child other than opposite sex parents? You're just judging, if you ask me.
Communism: You have more water, everyone has more water!
It's interesting (or altogether too predictable) how when studies show up proving something, there are always counter-studies to prove the exact opposite. Depends on who conducts the study.
I would just read and label that article excerpt as BS and move on, but one thing stood out for me. It stated: "Children of same-sex couples are more vulnerable than their counterparts to be teased about their parents, but not more likely to be teased overall, he said." So even if children of gay parents get teased more about their family, they get teased less about other things? Because of the very reason they were teased in the first place? Whether the first statement was true or not, the exception clause makes no sense. Is it overall teasing, or teasing as a whole, or teasing over all things considered, or teasing with exception(s), or lifelong teasing, or public teasing? I think you get the idea. The "evidence" is too flawed.
Anyway. There are plenty of reasons for why I believe children would be raised in poor fashion by gay parents. (Keep in mind I use the terms "gay" and "homosexual" interchangeably.)
1. Gay "marriages" last an average of 1.5 years, while heterosexual marriages last an average of 10-15 years. Activists tend to ignore that statistic in favor of the one that shows how the divorce rates are nearly the same. What does 1.5 years with both parents show a child? That their family can be stable...for 1-2 years?
2. Less than 5% of homosexual males report total sexual fidelity. In a lifetime they're likely to have hundreds of partners. Being a kid with different people at home every week can't do anything good for the parent-child relationship.
3. 92% of American homosexual couples do not have any children, whether it be by a previous heterosexual marriage or by adoption. Well, considering that 54% of American heterosexual couples do not have any children, they're certainly not helping the adoption rate (which is the only things they can help).
@Haruspex I don't doubt that homosexuals are just as human as heterosexuals. I'm not here to bash a lifestyle. But it's a totally different matter when the issue of children is at hand.
Wow, LOTS of tension...... Well, thank you Haru, for that study. Lim, you have the right to defend your opinion. However, in an ethical way, I disagree. And yes, it is offensive. But, I stand by it.
However, I really don't see why how this changes the subject. Religion is getting in the way of the child finding a good home. Now, I'm not saying every homosexual couple is a wonder-parent team, but, they at least want to help the child. Besides, this isn't exactly the 1960s, so, lay off. I don't think I need to prove the divorce rates, since, we all know those are too high. Also, since when have heterosexual couples been more stable? There's a lot more chance of infidelity, and, more likely to take it out on the child. I'm gonna go as far to say that I liken this to orphanage/adoption agency not letting a heterosexual couple adopt a white child because they're black. Naturally, that would work, vice-versa, but, that only help illustrate the bigotry in this Country. If I missed anything crucial, mock me for it, please.
Whoa bro, better slow down bro, don't wanna be a bro, bro.
How are they born gay? HOMOSEXUALITY ISN'T EVEN LOVE! It's lust, the lust for the same sex. They just find the same sex attractive.. And if the Kid is OLD enough, let him decide.. No?

@Syed: Elaborate, please. I don't recall anybody posting about birth and homosexuality. And if that's YOUR "logic", then clearly, that means that that heterosexual marriage isn't "love", it's just "lust for the OTHER sex".
Quoth the greatest of bumblers, "What's the big deal with gays getting married? If they wanna be miserable like the rest of us, I say let 'em!"
Whoa bro, better slow down bro, don't wanna be a bro, bro.
Craig umm wth? Religion? Hate? Enlighten me please; Ram I quote craig, "it's not their fault".
What is love, lets see...
Love is mutual feelings to a very high extent, no? Which can't be realistic, you can't love a person. Love is lust... Love is a philosophy, a reaction which is lust.
But as they describe "love" these days.. There is NO such thing.
My ideal life; Living to the fullest, having fun, and geeking on a linux box.
Craig stop being a fool, you can't judge all by faith. If so, Christians, Jews, Muslims, and all those faiths are homophobes! Are they now? Get your head out of your ass, and learn. Don't judge by faith;
My ideal life; Living to the fullest, having fun, and geeking on a linux box.
Hmm... I think I've realized, I only hate Christianity the most... Perhaps because I experienced it... Hmm... Repressed thoughts... Anyway.
@Syed: I now see Craig's first post. In all honesty, it CAN, be genetic, as some find. I am not clear on this, and, personally, think it's a choice. And yes, the majority of religious peoples seem to be homophobes. However, the majority, is not the entirety.
Whoa bro, better slow down bro, don't wanna be a bro, bro.
No you stop thinking via religion. It's clear in the bible, Gays are an wrong, as in the Quran.
But do I hate gays? No, so you thinking the way you think.. Is not going to get you any place.
